New Yeshiva on the block - Petach Tikva
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Ronen Neuwirth, who is (aside from being a shul rabbi, teacher, a captain in the Navy, former Shaliach Bnei Akiva for North America, and CTO for a hi-tech company) the Rosh Tochnit for the Overseas Program of the Yeshivat Hesder of Petach Tikva. The yeshiva is not new, but they are now starting to integrate overseas students into their program and he wanted to meet Elan.
The Yeshiva describes itself as Modern Orthodox, and R. Neuwirth pointed out to me that while in the US, Religious Zionism is usually synonymous with Modern Orthodoxy, in Israel there are many Religious Zionists who are really quite fundamentalist in their outlook. The Yeshiva is proudly Modern Orthodox, and tries to provide a well-rounded experience - in learning subjects in addition to Gemara, as well as culturally, with weekly tiyulim, shabbatonim in various types of communities, and a social-service component as well.
Rav Yuval Cherlow, the Rosh HaYeshivah, will be in New York towards the end of January.
I know Rav Ronen. He is a great guy!!!
