I just received this shocker from the Gabai Reviiiii of the DJC:

Due to the sudden and urgent requirement of Punxatauhnie Phil to undergo extreme and immediate rehab, he is unable to make our originally scheduled Ground Hog convocation of February 2. It has instead been rescheduled for Friday February 23^rd.

In protest, I am publicizing the following open letter:

Dear Sholom,

I’m writing to express my consternation
At the news which has just crossed my workstation:
Instead of the planned convocation
Phil will be taking an extended vacation!

On my blog (1) I will post this pashkevil
Excommunicating the heretical Phil!
Not only had I already fired up the grill
I also began to use my skill

At preparing a suitably erudite drasha
Citing the venerable Chananya ben Akashya (2)
To fete the groundhog (who feeds on alfalfa) (3)
But it turns out that Phil has become a rasha!

‘Bo bayom’ was to be the theme
The date was a sermon-preparer’s dream
But now I’ll just have to blow off some steam
Until three weeks later – evoking ‘bein hametzarim’!

However I note the new date is in Adar
When ‘venahafoch hu’ (4) becomes the new par
So although Shevat you will hopelessly mar
We’ll just have to wait to belly up to the bar.
