Gil Student posted a letter from R Nati Helfgott, eloquently defending YCT from the recent trashing heaped on it by Yated Ne’eman. Oddly, Gil was afraid to post it on his own excellent Hirhurim site, but had no problem establishing a separate blog to post it on. Anyway, it’s worth a read.

At the DJC last Friday night, I presented a summary of Rabbi Howard Jachter’s 2004 essay. The most interesting thing is the parallels between the acceptance of Yom HaAtzmaut and of Purim by the contemporary religious communities in each case.
